Gary Palladino notched his 400th career victory as the Notre Dame-West Haven boys’ basketball coach Friday night as the Green Knights beat Berlin 66-60 in non-conference action at Alumni Hall in West Haven.

This is Palladino’s 31st and final season as head coach of the Green Knights. He announced this would be his final season earlier this month.

"I’m so happy for the kids who came back after going through a very difficult season last year," Palladino said about last year’s 1-19 campaign. The kids who returned did not want the same thing to happen this year."

Joe Bongiorni led the way with 18 points, including 7 of 8 from the free-throw line. Tahj Eaddy and Kevin Walton Jr. had 14 and 13 points, respectively for the Green Knights (3-1). Berlin (1-3) rallied from a 16-point halftime deficit to tie the game in the fourth quarter, but never led.

Gary Palladino is going for career win No. 400 at Notre Dame-West Haven tonight against Berlin at 7 p.m. at newly-named Alumni Hall.

Palladino has almost 500 career wins that includes several other high school stops and a stint at the University of Hartford. This is his 31st, and final, season at NDWH. He announced this would be his last year earlier this month.

With 30 seasons to think about, there are plenty of great players you can think of who came through Palladino's program. Who are some of those stars?

Career survived at Branford 56-55 Tuesday night. Now the Panthers host North Haven in SCC Oronoque Division play. Branford tries to rebound at Wilbur Cross Saturday night, also in division play.

In the SCC Quinnipiac, Xavier tries to make it two straight when its hosts Hamden while Notre Dame-West Haven tries to get its first win of the season at West Haven. Fairfield Prep, which has lost two of its last three, has an interdivision home game against Guilford.

In the SCC Housatonic, Amity comes off a 70-48 win over North Haven to host Sheehan while, Cheshire, three days removed from beating Sheehan 70-50, plays at Lyman Hall.

And in the SCC Hammonasset, Foran hosts Hand in what could be a battle for second place behind Hillhouse.

Wilbur Cross swept its season series with Branford, winning at home 51-47. The Govs are tied with Career atop the SCC Oronoque, but Career can control its own destiny to win it thanks to their win at Cross last Saturday.
Notre Dame takes a two-game lead in the SCC Quinnipiac thanks to Hamden beating Xavier at home.
Sheehan remained undefeated in the SCC Housatonic by pasting Shelton at home.

Notre Dame edged Xavier 65-62 at home to take a one-game lead in the SCC Quinnipiac Division. Tom Doyle hit the biggest shot, a 3-pointer with 2:31 left to put Notre Dame up for good. Matt Pacheco led the way with 18 points for Notre Dame, which has never won the SCC Quinnipiac.
Defending champion Sheehan remained unbeaten in the SCC Housatonic by beating Lyman Hall 54-49. Mason Bush led the Titans with 13 points while Rich Bronson had 15 for Lyman Hall.

In other action, Branford improved to 10-1 by beating Shelton, Crosby snapped a three-game losing streak by blitzing Derby and Hillhouse rebounded from its first loss of the season by beating Hand at home.

There were plenty of road winners in the SCC tonight:
Notre Dame won at Fairfield Prep and West Haven won at Hamden in the SCC Quinnipiac.
Branford won at East Haven and Career won at North Haven in the SCC Oronoque.
Law won at Hand in the SCC Hammonasset.
Home winners were Cheshire (over Shelton), Guilford (over Foran) while Stratford and St. Joseph prevailed over Masuk and Westhill, respectively.
