Providence...and New London...get Dunn

Kris Dunn made an oral commitment Wednesday to play basketball at Providence next season. The 6-3 senior guard also changed his mind about attending Wilbraham & Monson prep and will return to New London for one final season.

Dunn chose PC over other Big East schools UConn, Louisville, Pitt and Georgetown, all of whom offered scholarships, according to Dunn. He liked the fact that PC coach Ed Cooley, who came over from Fairfield U., attended almost all of his AAU games in Las Vegas, Orlando and Indianapolis.

This is a good move for both parties. Now we get to see the state's best player for one more season. And New London has some heavy hitters on its non-conference schedule:

Hillhouse at the Doc Hurley Classic in December
St. Joes and likely Trinity Catholic in the Northeast Classic in December.
and Weaver.

It's rare you get a kid who changes his mind and chooses to come back to a public school. Even without backcourt mate Torin Childs-Harris, New London will be one of the state's best teams and fun to watch.

Dunn does a 180

Kris Dunn has decided to return to play his senior season at New London, a little more than a month after choosing to attend Wilbraham & Monson with Andre Drummond, the toprecruit in the nation, who moved from St. Thomas More.
Dunn's father reveled this information to the Day of New London on Tuesday.
Dunn is making his oral committment today and it will likely be Providence. Please check back later for his official decision.

Dunn coming back puts New London, the reigning Class L champion and the No. 1 team in the final Register Top 10 poll, right back into the picture among top teams in the state. And the Whalers have a better non-conference schedule than last year, which includes St. Joseph and Hillhouse.
