Ridgefield topples St. Joes

The FCIAC may be down, but Ridgefield is not.
Ridgefield defeated second-ranked St. Joes 50-44 Tuesday night in Ridgefield. The hosts outscored the Cadets 17-5 in the second quarter.
Timajh Parker, James Jennings and Oscar Assie COMBINED for 19 points. Not a good effort from the Cadets, who struggled during their Northeast Classic last week.
Ridgefield is solid behind point guard Brian Galvin and coach Carl Charles, but St. Joseph scoring just 44 points? We will see if this wakes up the Cadets.
No other real surprises around the area: Fairfield Prep moved to 7-0, beating Hamden 65-43. Foran looks to be the second-best team in the SCC Hammonasset, beating Hand 56-53. Lyman Hall beat Notre Dame-West Haven 61-39, Wilbur Cross over Branford 56-53 and Stratford over Bunnell 47-33.

Connecticut Hoops Challenge

as first reported earlier today by the Hartford Courant, the second annual Connecticut Hoops Challenge will be held on Martin Luther King Day, Jan. 17, back at Detrick Gym on the campus of Central Connecticut State University.
Neither Hillhouse nor Wilbur Cross are taking part this year (both lost last year to East Hartford and New Britain, respectively), but the quadrupleheader is as follows:
Sacred Heart vs. St. Paul - 2:30 p.m.
New Britain vs. Newington - 4 p.m.
East Catholic vs. Northwest Catholic - 6:15 p.m.
Windsor vs. Manchester - 7:45 p.m.
Tickets for all four games are $10. To buy tickets in advance call or visit any of the participating schools Wednesday through Jan. 14 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Tickets also can be purchased Jan. 17 at Detrick Gymnasium. There are no ticket refunds or exchanges.
