JCC Schoolboy/Schoolgirl Classic Saturday


The JCC Schoolboy/Schoolgirl Classic will be held Saturday at the Jewish Community Center in Bridgeport.

The Connecticut West girls will face the Connecticut East girls at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Connecticut boys against New Jersey at 8:30.

The Connecticut boys roster, coached by Vito Montelli of St. Joseph, is: Lucas Hausman of Hopkins, James Jennings of St. Joseph, Zach Lewis of Northwest Catholic, Nolan Long of Waterford, Billy McDonald of North Haven, John Papale of Choate, Darren Payen of Hamden Hall, Trachone Preston of Enfield, Terry Tarpey of Fairfield Prep, Demetrius Thomas of Bassick and Chris Walters of Westhill.

The Connecticut West girls roster, coached by Newtown’s Jeremy O’Connell and Hillhouse’s Catrina Hawley-Stewart, is: Briana Bradford of Holy Cross, Christine Cretella of Seymour, Danielle Dorsette of Holy Cross, Caitlin Drakely of Nonnewaug, Mackenzie Griffin of Trinity Catholic, Bria Holmes of Hillhouse, Victoria Pfohl of Trumbull, Aaliyah Robinson of Wilbur Cross, Michelle Wu of Masuk and Riley Wurtz of Newtown.

McCarthy headed to SCSU

Lyman Hall center Jack McCarthy has made a oral commitment to play basketball at Southern Connecticut State University.
The 6-6 McCarthy averaged 17.6 points, 12 rebounds and three assists per game for the Trojans, who advanced to the Southern Connecticut Conference tournament semifinals. McCarthy was also considering Eastern Connecticut State.

Kris Dunn at Jordan Brand Classic

New London's Kris Dunn played 20 minutes in Saturday's Jordan Brand Classic in Charlotte, N.C.

The state's only representative in the game finished with 8 points on 3-of-12 shooting from the floor with 5 steals and 4 rebounds for the East team, which lost to the West 99-95.

Dunn will be heading to Providence College next season.
