Stratford's Sherrod commits to Yale

Former Stratford basketball standout Brandon Sherrod, now at Choate Rosemary Hall, will play basketball next season at Yale University. Sherrod said he committed late Tuesday night in a conversation with Yale head coach James Jones.
Sherrod had several offers according to him and Choate coach Adam Finkelstein, including a pair from Atlantic-10 schools Fordham and St. Bonaventure. But in the end, Sherrod, the 2010 Register State Player of the Year for boys' basketball, chose Yale over Brown.

Solid non-conference schedules for New Haven schools

Basketball season does not begin until Dec. 15, but the CIAC has posted the basketball schedules for the season.
Wilbur Cross, a Class L state semifinalist last season, will play Northwest Catholic in the Doc Hurley Classic at Weaver High on Dec. 18 and will host Sacred Heart on Dec. 28.
The CIAC only lists Hillhouse for 18 games, but the Academics are supposed to be playing two out-of-state teams on their non-conference slate: Christ The King at the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass. and at Mount Vernon (NY) in the return game of a home-and-home.
Hillhouse still does not have a head coach. Kermit Carolina became the school's principal in late June. The job was finally posted earlier this month.
It says here that in all likliehood, one of Carolina's assistants, Renard Sutton or former Register Area MVP Tyrese Sullivan, will succeed Carolina.
