Cross comes from behind to stun North Haven

Wilbur Cross scored the last nine points of the game to stun North Haven 54-53 at North Haven and sweep the season series from its SCC Oronoque Division rival.
Even more stunning was another SCC Oronoque game: Branford 51, Career 44 in New Haven. If there was any doubt before, there is none now: Branford is a bonafide division contender and the biggest surprise in the SCC.
Both Hillhouse and Xavier remained undefeated, beating Law and Fairfield Prep respectively. Both teams have one more game left, Hillhouse against Guilford and Xavier against West Haven, before their showdown next Thursday at the New Haven Athletic Center at 6 p.m.
In other action, Notre Dame won at Hamden 61-58 in overtime. Tom Doyle had a season-high 29 points while Ryen Vilmont poured in 31 for Hamden. West Haven pasted Guilford 83-42 and East Haven won at Cheshire 56-53. Lyman Hall won at Shelton 52-45 and Hand won at Foran 59-46.

Amity-Sheehan boys' hoop game postponed

Only boys basketball game tonight has been postponed - Amity at Sheehan - and no, it has nothing to do with the weather.

A broken hoop during a gym class is the reason why the game has been called off for this evening. The game has been rescheduled for Feb. 16.

All other area games are on as scheduled. I will be covering Wilbur Cross at North Haven. These two teams met on Dec. 26 in the Vanguard Classic at Cross, a 44-37 win for Cross. But North Haven's top player, Brian Salzillo, missed the game due to being sick.
