Looking for No. 1

Hyde made a statement Wednesday night, beating Cromwell, the reigning Class S champion, 70-44 at the New Haven Athletic Center.
They held Cromwell to just six points in the third quarter on just 2 of 17 shooting and held Cromwell's leading scorer, Isaiah Salafia, scoreless in the seocnd half. Hyde is big, deep and itching to win the Class S championship. The Howling Wolves are clearly the favorite.
But they believe, and maybe rightfully so, that they should be No. 2 in the state and receiving first-place votes. New London jumped Hyde into the fourth spot by one point. I imagine it is because of the Shoreline Conference schedule Hyde is playing now, but remember, Hyde has already beaten Crosby and Bassick.

If Hyde is the only undefeated team in the state by season's end, it will be very interesting tos ee what position the team finishes in the final poll. Very interesting.

And what if Harding beats Bridgeport Central Thursday night? We shall see. That is the big game on Thursday's schedule at the Arena at Harbor Yard.
