New Haven 0-2 at Connecticut Hoops Challenge

East Hartford looked like and played like the better team against Hillhouse Monday night.
They had more size than Hillhouse and used it, outrebounding the Academics 45-30. Center Jakarri McCallop had 17 of those rebounds for the Hornets.
East Hartford point guard Anthony Jernigan had more assists than his counterpart, Freddie Wilson. East Hartford also got to the line more, 27 times to be exact, thanks to its inside game. Hillhouse shot too many three-point shots, its usual mantra, and went to the line only eight times.
Bu this will definitely benefit the Academics come March. Having not played outside the Southern Connecticut Conference cost them against Crosby last year because they did not face a team with that type of speed all season.
Playing East Hartford, and Mount Vernon next Wednesday, will give Hillhouse an idea of what is out there when the Class LL state tournament rolls around.

As for Wilbur Cross, New Britain was just a better team. Darius Watson and Steve Glowiak were the best two players on the floor for the Hurricanes.
And New Britain went to the zone for the first time this season not only to help offset rebounding but to dare the Governors to shoot jumpers. They did, and made just one out of 12 in the second quarter.
The rebounding was exact 36 for both teams. Cross has plenty of work to do at 6-5 and must rebound quickly, playing at Sheehan tonight.
